CNBC AI News, August 28th — Following reports of a pet-friendly hotel in Wuhan offering “dog companionship” services, capturing significant online attention with its ten resident canine employees, a new trend is emerging in China’s hospitality sector.
A Guangzhou-based guesthouse in Panyu Nanyu has recently garnered buzz for its unique offering: “Cat Cuddling” or “Cat Butler” services.
This guesthouse provides guests with the opportunity to have feline companions during their stay. According to online hotel booking platforms, nightly rates range from approximately ¥400 to ¥700, potentially exceeding ¥1000 during peak season.
According to the guesthouse owner, they currently operate three rooms, staffed by eight “cat employees”: five Ragdolls, two British Shorthairs, and one American Shorthair.
“We differentiate ourselves from traditional cat cafes by offering guests a private and intimate experience,” the guesthouse stated. “Our cats are accustomed to human interaction, having been raised here since they were kittens. They are very friendly and sociable.”
To ensure both hygiene and safety, the guesthouse has implemented a series of measures.
All cats have received three rounds of vaccinations, including rabies shots, and are regularly groomed, fed fish oil, and treated with hair conditioner to minimize shedding. Public areas are equipped with a 24-hour surveillance system linked to the local police. First aid supplies, such as iodine swabs and bandages, are readily available.
Due to the thorough cleaning required to remove cat hair, room cleaning takes longer than at conventional hotels. For health reasons, the guesthouse currently does not accommodate guests with cat allergies.
To date, the guesthouse has served over 700 customers. In the event of a cat scratching a guest, immediate disinfection with iodine is performed.
