Kingsoft Office: Lei Jun Reappointed as Honorary Chairman (Unpaid)

In a move that underscores the enduring influence of one of China’s tech titans, Kingsoft Office, the parent company behind the popular WPS Office suite, has announced at its board meeting the continued appointment of Lei Jun as its Honorary Chairman.

Lei Jun, the company’s founder and de facto controlling shareholder, brings a wealth of experience to the table. His guidance in technical innovation, management optimization, and the cultivation of corporate culture is expected to contribute significantly to the company’s sustained growth and overall health. He is seen as a pivotal figure providing strategic oversight and direction.

Notably, Lei Jun’s role as Honorary Chairman is purely advisory. He will not receive any compensation for his service and enjoys no additional rights beyond those of a typical board member.

Lei Jun’s journey with the company began in 1992, when he joined Kingsoft Software as its sixth employee.

By 1998, he was at the helm, serving as CEO.

After Kingsoft Software’s IPO in 2007, Lei Jun transitioned to Vice Chairman.

In a significant homecoming, he returned to the company in July 2011, assuming the role of Chairman.

Before his dominant presence in a range of technology, he founded Joyo.com, an early e-commerce venture sold to Amazon. Simultaneously, he invested in and mentored a portfolio of innovative companies including YY and UC.

In April 2010, Lei Jun embarked on a new entrepreneurial venture, founding Xiaomi, a company that has become a global force in the consumer electronics market.
