Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently made waves during his visit to China, attending the third China Chain Expo in a traditional Tang suit on the morning of July 16th, where he also delivered a keynote address.
Later that day, he swapped his Tang suit for his trademark black leather jacket for a more intimate discussion with outlets like Sina Technology. Over the span of an hour and a half, Huang addressed a range of pressing industry questions, offering detailed insights into Nvidia’s strategy and his perspectives on the Chinese tech landscape.
Below are excerpts from Huang’s dialogues, lightly edited for clarity, retaining the original intent.
Talks Xiaomi: Yearning for a Xiaomi Car
Huang: Nvidia enjoys a robust partnership with Xiaomi across many fronts. They are a great partner. When I first encountered Xiaomi, Lei Jun was a young man—well, I was younger then too, but he was *definitely* younger. From day one, I recognized he was destined for remarkable success.
Today, Lei Jun has built an extraordinary company, a true marvel. From incredible smartphones to high-performance automobiles and everything in between, their ability to manufacture such a diverse portfolio of quality products is astounding and a testament to Lei Jun’s unique capabilities.
China possesses impressive hardware capabilities, especially in areas like batteries and power technology. But what often goes unnoticed is the parallel rise of China’s world-class computer science and software prowess.
I’d love to own a Xiaomi car myself. We have a close working relationship with Xiaomi across a number of areas. The electric vehicles coming out of China over the last five years may be the most surprising and exciting thing that happened in the world.
Asked specifically about his meeting with Xiaomi founder Lei Jun, Huang told Sina Finance: “Lei Jun showed me their new car. The technology is unbelievable, the styling is beautiful, and the in-car technology is arguably best-in-class. I desperately want to buy a Xiaomi car, but unfortunately, they’re not available in the United States. It’s our loss.”
He further elaborated, praising vehicles from Xiaomi, BYD, and Li Auto, noting the spaciousness of Li Auto vehicles, which he likened to “living rooms on wheels,” while describing NIO and XPeng as particularly luxurious.

On Huawei: Dismissing Huawei is Utter Naivete
Huang: Anyone who underestimates Huawei, or China’s manufacturing capabilities in general, is being incredibly naive. This is a company with tremendous engineering strength, and I’ve seen the technology they have created in the past.
Huawei possesses exceptional chip design capabilities, truly outstanding. They excel in system engineering and network engineering. Furthermore, they offer their own cloud services. Nvidia doesn’t provide its own cloud services, but Huawei does, which empowers them to independently develop their market. This is a very powerful ability.
I am committed to learning from Huawei, and we will continue to learn from our growing list of competitors.

On Apple: They’re on Their Own AI Timeline
Huang: Apple employs a lot of incredibly talented people. I have no doubt they possess outstanding AI capabilities. They operate on their own timeline, but whatever they do, it will be exceptional.
Personally, I am a big fan of the Pixel phone because it runs pure Android. That’s right, pure Android! No added bloatware, no unnecessary additions, just a clean and simple experience. I love it!
On DeepSeek: An Undeniable Breakthrough
Huang: The AI industry can be viewed as having three layers: compute, models, and applications. China’s progress across these three layers is remarkable, particularly the significant breakthroughs in the model and application Layers.
The speed of development [in AI] in China is staggering. At the model layer, you have companies like DeepSeek, Alibaba, Moonshot AI, Kimi, and more, all pushing the boundaries of technology. DeepSeek’s release of the world’s first open-source model designed for inference is a major breakthrough—an undeniable breakthrough. The technological advancements at the model layer are accelerating at an incredible pace.
Because DeepSeek is specifically designed for inference, requiring complex, iterative reasoning (“thinking many times”), each generated
