At the 2025 OpenAtom Open Source Ecology Conference on July 23rd, Zhang Xiaofeng, a member of the OpenHarmony Project Group Working Committee and Vice President of the Software Department of Huawei Terminal BG, delivered a keynote speech titled “Pioneering and Developing the Open Source Ecosystem.” The presentation highlighted the key achievements of OpenHarmony in community development, technological evolution, industry implementation, version iteration, and local policy collaboration. He also called for more regions to accelerate the adoption of HarmonyOS in government and enterprise office applications, promoting open-source ecosystem development, boosting regional economic growth, and enhancing industrial competitiveness.
OpenHarmony Community Thrives, Industry Implementation Yields Significant Results
As the Internet of Everything (IoT) accelerates its integration into daily life, OpenHarmony, serving as the unified technological foundation for HarmonyOS and its commercially available third-party distributions, aims to provide high-performance solutions for consumer terminals and comprehensive support for the digital transformation of various industries. The ambition? To collectively build the digital bedrock of a fully interconnected world.
Fueled by the contributions of developers and partners, the OpenHarmony community has continued to expand significantly. According to Zhang Xiaofeng, the community now boasts over 9,000 code contributors, who have contributed more than 130 million lines of code. With over 450 community partners and 67 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) established, the platform showcases a vibrant technological dynamism and strong community cohesiveness. Moreover, dozens of enterprises and organizations from industry, academia, and research institutions are actively contributing to the community, continuously promoting its governance and technological advancement.
To date, the number of software and hardware products that have passed the OpenHarmony compatibility test has exceeded 1,200, covering a wide range of product types, including smartphones, tablets, PCs, and wearable devices. These products span multiple sectors, including finance, transportation, education, healthcare, aerospace, energy, government affairs, industry, and consumer electronics. The impact of “Powered by OpenHarmony” is becoming increasingly evident across diverse industries.
Since the release of its first version in 2020, OpenHarmony’s version capabilities have undergone rapid iterations, significantly enhancing system capabilities and developer experience. It now supports development for mainstream terminal devices such as smartphones and PCs, further solidifying its ability to provide seamless all-scenario connectivity.
OpenHarmony continues to achieve notable progress in industry applications. Numerous leading enterprises in various sectors have leveraged OpenHarmony to develop customized operating system distributions tailored to their specific industry needs. Examples include China Mobile’s “YiHong,” National Energy Group’s “KuangHong,” China Southern Power Grid’s “DianHong,” and the “JiaoHong” distribution in the transportation sector. These distributions are now widely used across these industries, contributing to their digital transformation efforts.
Government-Enterprise Collaboration Accelerates HarmonyOS Adoption in Local Government and Enterprise Offices
With the support of both government and enterprises, the integration of HarmonyOS into government and enterprise office applications is rapidly accelerating, encompassing over 100 general office platforms, 38 million enterprises, and more than 50,000 workbenches supporting quick applications. Prominent examples include Beijing Office, My Nanjing Government Edition, Ji Zheng Tong, and Xiang Yi Ban, which have already completed HarmonyOS integration, empowering enhanced office experiences.
In closing, Zhang Xiaofeng, speaking on behalf of the OpenHarmony community, emphasized the platform’s broader transformative impact: “Open source is not just a mode of technological innovation; it’s a new paradigm for industrial collaboration. We hope that more local governments and enterprises will join hands with OpenHarmony to establish collaborative mechanisms, creating closed loops in talent, policy, and resources to collectively build and share a new OpenHarmony world.”
