In a move to bolster user safety on its platform, TikTok, the wildly popular short-video app, recently hosted an “Anti-Fraud Open Day” event, partnering with multiple regulatory bodies to launch an “Anti-Fraud Volunteer Alliance.”
The platform has identified two primary categories of scams targeting its users.
One prevalent type of scam involves impersonation of TikTok customer service representatives. Scammers, posing as official support, directly contact users, with all interactions occurring off-platform.
To combat these schemes, TikTok is focusing on enhanced anti-fraud warnings and public awareness campaigns, alongside improvements to its customer service verification tools, to help protect users. The platform has emphasized a process for users to verify communications by searching for the “verification assistant” within the TikTok app.
In 2025, TikTok introduced features like “customer service contact records” and “dynamic verification codes” to further enhance security for users.
The platform claims to protect an average of 50,000 potential victims of this type of scam daily.
The other major scam category involves cross-platform redirect fraud.
To tackle these threats, TikTok’s risk management team utilizes a multi-faceted approach. They employ a proprietary, multi-modal large language model, analyzing user text, images, videos, and other data streams, to build AI-powered agents that significantly boost content moderation capabilities and amplify user alerts.
Currently, TikTok is banning over 80,000 scam-related accounts daily, successfully blocking more than 4 million suspicious posts and comments, and sending 7 million in-app warnings.
