CNBC AI News, August 14th – Xiaomi is brewing up goodwill with a unique initiative. Starting August 16th, the tech giant will be giving away 100,000 complimentary tea offerings at its Xiaomi Home stores across China.
These aren’t just any tea leaves. Xiaomi is sourcing its “Happiness Tea Gift” from the Mazhai Village poverty alleviation tea gardens in Guizhou’s Qiandongnan prefecture.
Nestled in the mountains at 998 meters above sea level (approximately 3,274 feet), at a latitude of 26° North, Mazhai Village’s remote location hasn’t deterred its residents. Through dedicated cultivation, they’ve transformed the rocky terrain into lush tea gardens, crafting a narrative of prosperity against the odds. The free tea represents a tangible reward from this environment.
Xiaomi’s commitment to Mazhai Village extends beyond tea procurement. Xiaomi Services has provided the villagers, and the local elementary school, with essential appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions. The company also offers installation and removal services, plus complimentary mobile phone cleaning and screen protection for the local community.
Furthermore, Xiaomi Services has adopted and is supporting 150 mu (approximately 24.7 acres) of the poverty-alleviation tea garden. The harvest from this land, a premium black tea rich in selenium and zinc, is what comprises the 100,000 tea gifts which also include a card telling the story of the charitable endeavor. These gifts have been distributed to over 2,000 Xiaomi Home stores and service centers nationwide.
Word to the wise: these tea gifts are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
