CNBC AI News, August 18th – Live streaming mogul Xinba, a prominent figure on the Kuaishou platform, announced his retirement from the industry today, citing serious health concerns. “I’m bidding farewell. From today onward, I no longer possess the capacity to handle the demands of live streaming. I officially announce my exit from the live streaming business,” Xinba stated during his broadcast.
Xinba indicated that he will entrust the management and operations of his company to his business partner, Chu Ruixue.
The reason for his departure, he explained, is primarily due to deteriorating health. He emphasized the need to prioritize his well-being and address a severe lung condition.
According to Xinba, medical assessments have revealed that his lung function is comparable to that of a 95-year-old, highlighting the severity of his condition.
Xinba elaborated on his medical history, revealing a pre-existing condition of bronchitis since the age of 24, along with diagnoses of emphysema and pulmonary bullae. He also mentioned a battle with tuberculosis at 21. The pressures of maintaining a demanding live-streaming schedule, coupled with pre-existing conditions, may have contributed to his accelerated decline.
This announcement comes on the heels of controversy surrounding Xinba’s private-label brand, “Cotton Secret” sanitary napkins. In July, multiple batches of the product were reported to contain high levels of thiourea, a Class 3 carcinogen.
Publicly available testing reports indicated that certain batches produced between 2019 and 2025 exhibited thiourea concentrations reaching 16,653 μg/g, significantly exceeding cosmetic safety standards. This recent scandal undoubtedly added to the pressures Xinba faces.
Reports suggest that “Cotton Secret” boasted a user base in the millions, with accumulated sales of approximately $460 million (3.33 billion RMB) over eight years. However, hundreds of consumers have reported experiencing thyroid issues and gynecological inflammation following use of the product, further complicating Xinba’s situation.
