XPeng Motors Shines at Chengdu Auto Show with AI-Powered Lineup, New P7 Takes Center Stage

This display highlights Xpeng’s cutting-edge advancements in AI technology for the automotive industry.

Located at booth H1106 in Hall 11, Xpeng’s exhibit isn’t just about showcasing vehicles. It’s a deep dive into the technologies that power them. Visitors can explore Xpeng’s Turing AI-powered autonomous driving system, the custom-designed Turing AI chip, innovative “shooting battery pack” technology, and ultra-fast 5C charging solutions. These offerings showcase the company’s serious investment and capabilities in both intelligent features and electrification.

Adding to the buzz, the first deliveries of the newly updated Xpeng P7 took place on the opening day of the show in Chengdu’s bustling Chunxi Road district, demonstrating the vehicle’s enduring popularity and market appeal.

Riding a Wave of Product Momentum, Bolstering Self-Sufficiency

As Xpeng Motors approaches its eleventh anniversary in August 2025, the “AI Changing the World” theme is perfectly aligned with the Motor Show’s focus on innovation. This underlines Xpeng’s strategic focus on AI and its potential to drive future growth.

The company’s recent Q2 financial results paint a picture of significant upward trajectory. Revenue soared to RMB 18.27 billion, a 125.3% year-over-year increase. Deliveries hit a record 103,181 vehicles, up 241.6% from the previous year. Gross margin expanded to 17.3%, and cash reserves reached an all-time high of RMB 47.57 billion. Economies of scale and operational efficiencies are fueling commercial success, which is reinvested back into research and development – R&D spending in Q2 reached RMB 2.21 billion, a testament to Xpeng’s commitment to future product upgrades and technological breakthroughs.

In the first half of 2025, Xpeng launched updated versions of five models, including the 2025 G6, G9, X9, the MONA M03 Max, and the P7+ Long Range Max. These refreshed models were enough to propel Q2 deliveries to record levels. The G6 and G9 have repeatedly dominated their respective market segments, both domestically and internationally. The X9 continues to lead the high-end all-electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) category, achieving top sales in both Hong Kong and Thailand. The MONA M03, celebrating its first anniversary, has delivered over 160,000 units, consistently exceeding 10,000 deliveries per month and setting new benchmarks in the A-class all-electric sedan segment.

The remainder of 2025 promises even more for Xpeng. The Xpeng G7, positioned as the “AI Smart Family SUV” launched in July and has already surpassed 10,000 deliveries, consistently securing first place in its segment. The G7’s VLA large language model is currently undergoing internal testing and is expected to be pushed to vehicles in the near term. The updated Xpeng P7 debuted on August 27th with four models, priced between RMB 219,800 and RMB 301,800. The car offers a sleek, wide-body design and AI-powered features. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Xpeng will launch the X9, marking the beginning of its strategy to have vehicles that can serve multiple purposes. Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng stated on the Q2 earnings call that monthly deliveries are expected to exceed 40,000 units starting in September.

In a further sign of confidence, Xpeng and Volkswagen Group expanded their technology partnership in August, marking the fourth collaboration in three years between the two companies. The joint venture will develop advanced electrical architectures that will be integrated into Volkswagen’s electric vehicle platform in China, along with their internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid models, extending the scope of collaboration into a much broader market.

New Xpeng P7: Popular from the Start, First Deliveries Underway

The new Xpeng P7 embodies the spirit of innovation, offering a unique design, handling comparable to million-Yuan sports sedans, an “858” electric drive system, and comprehensive AI technology. These features position the P7 as a leader in the under-RMB 300,000 intelligent all-electric sports sedan market, selling over 10,000 pre-orders in just seven minutes after its launch. On the first day of the Chengdu Motor Show, the first deliveries of the new Xpeng P7 were celebrated in Chengdu’s Chunxi Road.

The new vehicle features a supercar-like body design, a pure flat illuminated logo, a suspended license plate frame, and an active lift electric tail wing. The interior boasts a three-axis dynamic screen, touch pad, sports steering wheel, and integrated sports seats. The four-wheel drive model features unique gullwing doors, a zero-gravity passenger seat, and customized materials.

The new Xpeng P7 is powered by three Turing AI chips, delivering a combined processing power of 2250 TOPS. This processing power allows the VLA+VLM large model to run locally. The vehicle model size will be increased by ten times to billions of parameters, and the VLA large model will run more than twice as fast as its peers. The car uses a mid-mounted electric drive layout for stability and control, and the front aluminum double wishbone and rear five-link suspension are paired with air springs and adaptive dampers.

The new Xpeng P7 also features an “858” high-performance battery pack, built on an 800V platform and 5C fast-charging AI battery, supporting a range of 525km with 10 minutes of charging and a maximum range of 820km under CLTC conditions.

Building an All-Scenario AI Technology Ecosystem

Xpeng Motors continues to make breakthroughs in active safety, electric drive systems, and autonomous driving.

In active safety, the new Xpeng P7 features AES (Automatic Emergency Steering) on wet surfaces. Under 80-130km/h, the function is able to perform automatic emergency steering avoidance on slippery roads.

In electric systems, Xpeng continuously pushes industry limits through in-house R&D. The new Xpeng P7 underwent a “24-hour extreme endurance test” under official supervision and traveled a total of 3,961 kilometers. At the Zhejiang International Circuit, the new Xpeng P7 set a record of 1 minute and 38.767 seconds, which verified that the vehicle is stable and fast.

In autonomous driving, Xpeng Motors adheres to full-stack in-house development of core software and hardware technologies. Driven by AI, Xpeng develops large AI chips with large physical models, and then rapidly iterates these models through data. Xpeng’s Turing AI chip has been applied in the Xpeng G7 Ultra and the new Xpeng P7 Ultra, and the company is accelerating the arrival of L3/L4 autonomous driving. The IRON humanoid robot was also on display, showing the company’s future plans to deploy AI across various sectors.

Global Expansion 2.0: Accelerating International Reach

Chengdu’s new energy market is growing rapidly. In H1 2025, new energy penetration in Chengdu reached 47.1%, providing growth for companies like Xpeng Motors.

Alongside strong domestic sales, Xpeng continues to grow overseas with 21,701 units delivered in the first seven months of 2025, a 174% increase year-over-year. The company now operates in 46 countries and regions worldwide. In July, the first Xpeng X9 produced locally in Indonesia was delivered, marking the beginning of Xpeng’s global localization strategy.
