Lu Weibing: Competitors’ Foldable Screens Are Wide, But Creased – Mate’s Premium Price Tag Only Buys One Speaker

Xiaomi launched a slew of new products at its ecosystem event, with the MIX Flip 2 foldable phone being the highlight. President Lu Weibing aimed to redefine industry standards with its minimized crease, achieved through a new hinge design and a resilient 6.86-inch flexible glass screen. He also subtly criticized competitor models, highlighting superior features found in other Xiaomi products.

CNBC AI News – Within the realm of the fiercely competitive smartphone market, Xiaomi is clearly on the offensive. At last night’s highly anticipated Xiaomi All-in-One Ecosystem Launch event, President Lu Weibing took the stage, arms loaded with a range of new products aimed at stealing market share.

The unveiling of the Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 was arguably the highlight of the evening. Weibing didn’t mince words, setting a clear goal for the device: to redefine the industry standard for minimal crease in folding screens.

Leveraging the latest generation of Xiaomi’s “Dragon Bone Hinge,” this new foldable utilizes a three-linkage and four-floating plate design. Combined with a resilient 6.86-inch flexible glass screen, just as flat as the normal phone screen, Weibing promised a smooth appearance even after considerable use, boasting a tested ability to withstand over 200,000 folds without showing signs of wear.

Weibing also took the opportunity to subtly – or perhaps not so subtly – take aim at a rival’s foldable, commenting on the compromise in screen crease. He further emphasized this point later, noting the Redmi K80’s “master-level” dual-speaker set-up, while its competitors’ high-end, flagship models are equipped with one.
